DC Leisure wins £13.5m Hinckley contract
DC Leisure has won the £13.5 million contract to build and run Hinckley's new leisure centre. The agreement is for 20 years and means the group will have responsibility for the design, build, operation and maintenance of the facility for this period of time. Return on investment was given as one of the reasons for selecting the company. A rigorous and competitive purchasing process was carried out and DC Leisure managed to top all three key assessment criteria - services, technical and commercial. Over the life of the contract, the organisation will pay Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council £18 million, which means £485,000 per year back is going back into the public purse after the cost of financing is deducted. Council leader Stuart Bray said: "Residents will get outstanding facilities, replacing those which are reaching the end of their lives, and a significant financial return over and above the cost of delivery, which will support other services for the next 20 years. This is a clear win-win for local people."Peter Kirkham, DC Leisure's development director, said his firm is "delighted" to have been chosen as the partner in the scheme, which will be completed by 2016 providing planning permission is not held up. He added the site is central to helping the council achieve its aspirations of getting more people to take part in physical activity and encourage people to enjoy a healthier lifestyle. The state-of-the-art centre is expected to have a lifespan of at least 40 years and will replace the current leisure centre on Coventry Road in Hinckley in the summer of 2015. Employees at the old location are set to be retained. Among the improvements residents can expect are a larger eight lane, 25 metre main pool, a wet play area specifically for young families and a bigger learner pool with a floor that can be moved.
