Affordable homes scheme completed in Carlisle
The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has announced the completion of a new affordable homes development in Harraby, Carlisle.Delivered in partnership with Cubby Construction, the new £1.4 million residential property project has seen the creation of 11 high-quality, affordable new properties for individuals keen to move into the area to rent.In total, nine three-bedroom and two four-bedroom homes have been built as part of the scheme, with all properties being delivered in line with the government's Code for Sustainable Homes Level Three standards. This means each of the new properties has achieved energy efficiency levels that are at least 25 per cent lower than the minimum stipulation of Part L1A of the 2006 Building Regulations. As a result, the new development will not only help in the provision of new properties for renters in Carlisle, but will also go some way towards helping the local authority in its ambitious targets for reducing the level of greenhouse gas emissions from housing stock in the area.Councillor Jessica Riddle, portfolio holder for culture, health, leisure and young people at the local authority, said: "We're delighted that work is completed on this fantastic new housing development in Harraby."The scheme provides much-needed affordable housing for local residents and the provision of homes suited to young families is great news for the community of Harraby."Managed by Two Castles Housing Association, the site on Mayfield Avenue is the location of the former St Elizabeth's Church Hall and with building work now completed for all the new properties, the association is in a position to welcome its first new tenants. In response to the news, Deborah McLaughlin, executive director for the HCA, concluded: "Successes such as this demonstrate the benefits of close partnership working to ensure affordable housing is constructed where it is needed most."The scheme benefitted from £275,000 of public funding from the HCA during its construction phase.
