Knauf Drywall Solutions: (Quietly) building for the world we live in, every day

Knauf UK’s Director of Specification for the South of England & Wales, Paul Kersey explains how some of Knauf’s drywall solutions have helped architects across London achieve excellent sound reduction on their projects.

Effective noise reduction solution specified in award-winning building

Knauf Solopanel 12/25Q has been used in the stunning new civic centre in Hounslow, South West London. The acoustic ceiling board was specified around the large central staircase and large open space which forms a central component of the new building; it was recently shortlisted in the New London Architecture Awards.  In high traffic areas, sounds can quickly become noise, and create an environment people want to avoid rather than spend time in. Therefore, the new civic centre would require a high-performance solution which would effectively control noise, even when the area gets busy.

Architect Practice Sheppard Robson won a design competition for the new 16,000m2 Hounslow Civic Centre. Christina Pappa, an Associate at Sheppard Robson said: “We chose to specify the Knauf Solopanel system due to its excellent acoustic properties and we are happy with the overall system.”

Knauf Solopanel is a non-demountable fully fixed seamless ceiling system with a striking perforated surface.   As well as its aesthetic appeal, the perforations also act as acoustic absorption, ideal for creating a quiet, calming environment.

A silent night for residents in Stratford

The Knauf Isolator and Knauf Silentboard systems have been specified in a new luxury residential development in the thriving Stratford area of East London.

Manhattan Loft Garden is a collection of 248 single and double-height loft apartments available for both short and long-term rent in the trendy neighbourhood that was once home to the London 2012 Olympics.

In such bustling surroundings, having an oasis of calm at home is essential. The Knauf Isolator is a twin-frame system which was used in the development to separate the individual apartments and reduce noise transmission throughout the building. Knauf Isolator is capable of achieving an exceptional acoustic sound reduction of up to 76dB (Rw) – a perfect solution for use on high-density residential projects.

Complementing Knauf Isolator is Knauf Silentboard, a unique plasterboard with excellent acoustic properties. As the name suggests, the product outperforms the sound reduction capabilities of alternative traditional plasterboard solutions and is even suitable for use in cinemas and nightclubs.
