Knauf are proud to announce their involvement with the CRASH charity renovation project

The CRASH renovation project in the lounge and social space at homelessness charity Caritas Anchor House in Canning Town has officially opened. Knauf are proud to have been involved, supplying ceiling tiles for the project. The official opening of Caritas Anchor House’s newly refurbished room took place on 4 November.

Caritas Anchor House provides a roof over the head of 140 homeless people in East London. Over the many years that Caritas Anchor House has been providing life-changing services, thousands of people have used the communal lounge and social space.

The room had, understandably, seen better days and so earlier this year Caritas Anchor House embarked on a project to completely revamp the space.

The charity approached the team at CRASH – a unique, practical charity that assists homelessness and hospice charities with construction related projects, creating places that care for people. Knauf have supported the charity for 20 years; supplying free building materials, offering financial support and getting involved in fundraising activities.

As part of this latest collaborative project, Knauf provided Caritas Anchor House with Knauf Danoline Contur acoustic ceiling tiles. These tiles are a design unique to Knauf; they conceal the grid and therefore provide a monolithic ceiling which is fully demountable, mitigating the need for access panels.

Anthony, a resident of Caritas Anchor House, said “It used to be a depressing environment, I didn’t enjoy it down here. After this refurbishment, the first thing I want to do in the morning is come down here, have a chat with other residents and get on with some work!

My daughter used to feel uneasy entering the building before. After this project, I had to stop her jumping and running around the lounge enjoying herself so much! My partner and I are also enjoying a series of table tennis matches, it’s wonderful!”

Amanda Dubarry, CEO of Caritas Anchor House, added “We are delighted to have opened our newly renovated lounge to the residents. It is designed to be a multi-functional and relaxing space, enabling residents to unwind, build their social networks and, most importantly, to feel at home.

“We’ve also recently opened our IT and e-learning suite to support residents to keep connected and continue learning. We’re so grateful for the support of CRASH and their Patrons, including Knauf, who transformed the hub of our building community.”

Nick Charalambous, VolkerFitzpatrick Project Manager, stated “One of the key aesthetics we wanted to ensure is that the lounge didn’t end up looking ‘office-y’. It was through liaising with CRASH that we found out about Knauf Danoline Contur. Since getting in contact with Knauf they have been helpful throughout!”

Knauf are extremely proud to have been able to help on this wonderful project and look forward to collaborating on future projects!
