Knauf AQUAPANEL® has been specified in an exclusive development of new low-energy homes in Hexham, Northumberland which were shortlisted for two RICS Awards 2017 (‘Residential’ and ‘Design Through Innovation’ categories).
The 16 four and five-bedroom homes at Hexham Gate are designed to be thermally efficient and achieve an Energy Performance Rating Category A compared to the standard Category E for most UK homes. The preferred dry construction method, made possible with Knauf AQUAPANEL®, allows for reduced timescales and cost due to its lightweight properties and ease of installation.
The homes from Swedish market-leader Trivselhus were delivered by major local construction firm Esh Homes as joint venture partners, Trivselhus by Esh.

BBA certified, Knauf AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Outdoor boards provide a solid, dry base that can withstand the extreme weathering effects of wind, rain and snow. Once taped and jointed, Knauf AQUAPANEL® can be left exposed to the elements for up to six months, maximising the efficiency of project timescales.
Trivselhus by Esh say the development at Hexham Gate combines modern construction techniques with modern architecture to create state of the art homes which can significantly reduce energy bills. A number of breakthrough design and technology features have been used in the project, which is the first large scale sustainable development of its kind in the North-East.
The boards offer fast closure of exterior walls, allowing internal follow-on trades on site sooner. They are easy to cut and fix by scoring and snapping and there is no need for pre-drilling or specialist tools and equipment to fix.
The versatile nature of Knauf AQUAPANEL® makes it suitable for a wide range of both residential and non-residential developments. Knauf AQUAPANEL® is easily curved, allowing for striking architectural features to be formed. It is also ideal for creating exterior soffits and the illusion of an internal ceiling continuing through the façade to the outside of the building.
Hexham Gate was completed in Summer 2017 with all properties sold and occupied.
