The Deflection Head Fire Seal from Knauf enables the deflection head detail of drywall partition systems to be completed with just one person – fast.
The Construction Leadership Council’s recommendations on safe site practices during the Coronavirus pandemic recommend that tasks should be rearranged to enable them to be completed by one person where possible. Knauf’s Deflection Head Fire Seal allows for this precaution while also providing a valuable time saving for projects where time is now critically tight.
The product is an elastic polyurethane foam with intumescent firestop additives, used to provide an effective fire and acoustic barrier in the construction of Knauf’s drywall partition deflection head details. It is designed to provide up to 25mm downward deflection capability or + or – 12.5mm deflection capability.
Supplied on a roll it is highly flexible, lightweight, clean and easy to handle. It takes just moments to apply to Knauf metal framing components, providing a huge time saving compared to the traditional methods using plasterboard fillets to form deflection heads.
The traditional approach generally needs at least two people to cut and install the fillets.
This radical solution – introduced by Knauf in 2019 – will be immediately attractive for contractors battling with current restrictions and deadlines. An early user, Tom Norton, Site Operative for contractor Korbuild, observed: “Partitions that would take us three to four days are taking probably two thirds of that time. It’s simply a case of pulling it out of the box and unrolling it on top of the track.”
