Knauf gets stuck into the Construction Cup

Knauf, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of lightweight building materials, has hit the back of the net by announcing a sponsorship of the upcoming 2016 Construction Cup five-a-side football tournament.

The tournament will take place on the 2nd of September in the shadow of Wembley Stadium, home of English football and the scene of one of the country’s greatest footballing moment over the decades.

Since 2011 ambitious teams have gathered from around the country to battle for sporting glory all in the name of charity. Many of the UK’s most prominent manufacturers have thrown their weight behind the tournament and its charity efforts throughout its time.

Knauf have provided an exclusive Thames sightseeing cruise as one of the prizes on offer for the raffle, which is raising additional funds for the charity.  Over £19,000 has been raised so far for various charities since the Construction Cup kicked off five years ago.

All money raised for this year’s tournament will go to the Construction Youth Trust, a charity which helps young people in England and Wales to build a better future, providing them with access to training, education and employment opportunities in the UK construction industry.

As part of a wider effort in the construction industry to bolster diversity, all teams must have at least one female playing at all times, to be eligible for the tournament.

Knauf will field two teams in this year’s tournament with players drawn from both the Sittingbourne and Immingham plants.

Stuart Elliot, Service Management System Administrator at Knauf was realistic when asked about how the Knauf teams will perform at the tournament.

“We’ve done a bit of training and we’re going to aim to get as far as we can, taking it game by game. We’re taking part as a little bit of fun and to keep in touch with our customers, so any football success will be an added bonus!”
