Kier selected for Genesis housing project

Kier has been chosen by Genesis Housing Association to carry out work on a new repairs and maintenance contract. The £140 million deal will involve the provision of responsive repair services to over 10,000 Genesis properties, while maintenance work is to be undertaken across the whole Genesis portfolio of 33,000 homes. Planned cyclical works such as painting and decorating are to be carried out under the initial four-year contract, while responsive repair work will take place on Genesis' homes in east London and the east of England.Kier was selected following a rigorous tendering process that took place in 2013, which took into account feedback from residents and assessed against criteria including customer service, value for money and corporate social responsibility. The new contract builds upon existing arrangements and has been designed to ensure customers in all areas receive consistent and high standards of responsive repairs.  Kier executive director John Wilkinson commented: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Genesis Housing Association in order to build on the good work of the existing service. Our priority is to work with Genesis staff and their customers to achieve a first-class service that we can all be proud of."He added that the company is to work with Genesis and tenants groups to ensure the company delivers the highest level of customer service.Local contractors and subcontractors are to be utilised as part of the contract, while Kier plans to ensure residents benefit from employment and apprenticeship opportunities.Social enterprises are to be supported where possible and creative initiatives developed around financial and digital inclusion.Genesis Housing Association chief executive Neil Hadden said: "This is an exciting new partnership that will help to ensure we're meeting our residents' needs."Mr Hadden added that customer focus was a key part of the tendering process and Kier understands the requirements of Genesis' customers.External painting work is scheduled to start from mid-July, with responsive repairs starting in mid-October.
