Exciting south-west community 'taking shape'
Beechfield View is fast becoming a vibrant and exciting new community in the south-west of England, with the first tenants and property owners now moving into the development. The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has revealed the Torquay development from Sovereign Living has captured the imagination of the local community over recent months and is now attracting plenty of interest.Offering 114 homes in total, construction efforts at Beechfield View consist of 65 properties for general rental - eight of which are suitable for wheelchair-bound occupants - 42 properties have been put up for open sale, with six available via the government's FirstBuy scheme and 14 as part of the Help to Buy initiative. In addition, 20 homes have been made available at a discounted rental rate for key workers and a further 17 are shared ownership.Councillor David Thomas, executive lead for strategic planning, housing and energy, said: "Providing good quality housing for the residents of Torbay remains a high priority for Torbay Council and this scheme is an excellent example."It is clear that residents who have moved into this new development are already starting to enjoy the benefits this new development brings."One of the first new residents to take advantage of the opening of the project is 65-year-old Freda Brown, who has lived in the Barton area of Torquay for the last 20 years but has now taken up residence at a flat at Beechfield View. She noted that in her previous home she felt isolated and insecure in her surroundings, but Ms Brown feels the community at Beechfield View is already much "friendlier", with many of her new neighbours being of a similar age and with shared interests.Indeed, Paul Britton, area manager at the HCA, added it is extremely good news that so many people are moving into the development and stating how wonderful their new lives are, with the properties all having been built to a very high standard enabling residents to settle quickly into their new lives.
