Aberdeen office project gets green light
Knight Property Group has received planning consent from Aberdeen City Council for the creation of a new £30 million office construction project in the heart of the Scottish city.The plans will see the developer aiming to "breathe new life" into Aberdeen's historic Capital Theatre, with the building to be completely refurbished to deliver office accommodation for up to 700 workers and cover 70,000 sq ft.Set to become the largest city centre new build office project, the development will take approximately 18 months to complete, with an initial deadline for the first tenants to move in for mid-2015.James Barrack, director of Knight Property Group, said: "Now, we can look forward to restoring and redeveloping this iconic building and breathing some life back into the city centre and the west end of Union Street."I firmly believe that we as a city need to offer companies the best commercial property options, otherwise we are in danger of these businesses setting up bases and making investments elsewhere."Dating back to 1933, the listed property will be sympathetically restored and refurbished to retain many of its original features and charm, while also providing a modern and functional working space for numerous businesses.A consultation has been completed by the developer with Historic Scotland to ensure the art deco features of the building both internally and externally are retained, while Knight Property Group will also be working alongside the Aberdeen Theatre Organ Trust for the safe removal of the original Compton Organ currently residing at the premises.Meanwhile, a range of modern additions will also aim to make the building as attractive as possible to future tenants, including the installation of an escalator to link the new-build rear of the property to its tradition front.One of the most prestigious and luxurious venues in the city, Knight Property Group is keen to retain this sense of opulence despite the extensive remodelling that will be taking place over the coming months.
