New affordable homes to be built in Kendal
The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has announced a new multi-million pound affordable housing development is set to get underway in the town of Kendal.Work has begun on the construction of 27 new affordable properties on Windermere Road that will provide a low-cost option for buyers once completed. The homes will be made available for rent via the Cumbria Choice lettings scheme, with the project being carried out by Two Castles Housing Association and Esh Property Services.Rob Brittain, property services director at Two Castles Housing Association, commented: "Working with Esh Group as part of the innovative Hadrian Development Solutions Partnership is helping Two Castles to deliver more affordable homes in rural communities across the north-west."This scheme will develop a range of new homes that are relevant to the needs of local individuals and their families in vital need of quality housing in the area."Costing £3.8 million, the development will see the delivery of 14 two-bedroom houses and one two-bedroom bungalow, as well as ten three-bedroom and two four-bedroom properties.Utilising local building materials and the latest in green technologies, all of the homes will be built in line with the government's Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 - which relates to a 25 per cent improvement in terms of energy efficiency than Part L1A of the 2006 Building Regulations.Measuring the whole home as a complete package and taking into account the carbon footprint of construction as well as whole-life costs, the code examines issues including energy usage, water, materials, surface water run-off, waste, pollution, health and wellbeing, management and ecological impact.Deborah McLaughlin, executive director for the HCA, concluded the project provides a "great opportunity" for the construction of new affordable homes in the area as the agency looks to improve access to properties for those on lower incomes across the UK.
