Keepmoat chosen for Yorkshire development
Developer Keepmoat has been chosen by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) as the body's preferred bidder for the final three stages of an ambitious residential project in Yorkshire. The international construction firm will take on responsibilities for the delivery of the final stages of the Allerton Bywater Development at Park Lane in Allerton Bywater.Valued in excess of £30 million, the contract will see the delivery of 162 new two, three and four-bedroom homes at the site, as well as 29 two and three-bedroom apartments that will be available for affordable rental. In addition, construction efforts for more than 30,000 sq ft of additional commercial premises in the area will be undertaken.Properties will be completed in line with the government's Code for Sustainable Homes level 3 and as such, will provide a considerable reduction on fuel costs for those moving into new premises at the site over the coming years.Naomi Beckett, area manager for the HCA, said: "This is the culmination of many years of hard work by the HCA, our partners and predecessors."These new homes, which Keepmoat will build around 'homezones' will complete the scheme and ensure that the homes at Allerton Bywater have all been built to the original design code and meet [the] same very high standards."Undergoing significant redevelopment since the closure of the Allerton Bywater coal mine in 1992, the property is one of the standout projects for the HCA at present, with the delivery of new homes playing an important role in tackling the ongoing housing crisis in the area.Since 2006, the HCA has invested heavily in the site, with initial developments having so far delivered a comprehensive regeneration of the site. Once this final phase is complete, the HCA will have played an instrumental role in the creation of some 520 new residential properties, as well as new community facilities including a school for local children and a number of green spaces.
