ISG secures Liverpool exhibition centre deal
Developer ISG has secured a £40 million contract for the new Liverpool exhibition centre, as well as a further combined £27 million deal for an integrated hotel at Kings Dock.
Construction of the project is now set to get underway in late autumn and will see ISG create a new 8,100 sq metre centre complete with three exhibition halls. Movable walls will separate the three conference areas, meaning the whole of the space can be opened up to events if need be.
The new hotel will adjoin the new building and will feature 200 rooms for guests attended events at the centre in the coming years.
Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson commented: "This is fantastic news for Liverpool. I've pushed this project hard from the beginning, because I know the huge economic benefits it will bring to our city, attracting new visitors, boosting local business and creating jobs.
"This decision from the planning committee means we can now press ahead with delivering an absolutely world class waterfront development."
Funding for the scheme is being delivered via loans against the future revenues of the facility, meaning it will literally cost the taxpayer nothing once all the development costs have been recouped.
An initial deadline for the opening of the new Exhibition Centre Liverpool has been earmarked for early 2015, with the facility large enough to cope with conferences, concerts and sporting events in the future. It promises to become a hub of activity in the heart of the north-west city and a real attraction for guests.
It is expected to attract upwards of 250,000 visitors each year and will host more than 50 events in its first 12 months of operation.
Meanwhile, facilities at the new hotel are set to be managed by Pullman once all building work has been completed, with the new development offering a ground floor reception, lobby, gym, bar, restaurants and meeting rooms.
The combined project was approved by Liverpool City Council's planning committee on July 23rd.
