University of Glamorgan unveils environmentally-friendly sports hall
University of Glamorgan students are benefiting from using one of the most environmentally-friendly buildings in Wales.
The educational institution's new sports hall has become the first such facility in the nation to receive an 'Excellent' rating in its Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method assessment, reports World Interior Design.
It was awarded the status as a result of its use of natural daylight and ventilation, while the super-efficient gas fired boilers it employs were also taken into account.
The environmentally-friendly building is used by the Cardiff City FC youth academy, as well as the Welsh netball and badminton teams.
International rugby sides such as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa have also used the sports hall as part of their preparations for games against Wales.
As construction work on the building got underway last year, Alun Woodruff, the university's director of estates, told the Western Mail: "This is another piece of the university's capital development jigsaw which will raise the bar in terms of sporting facilities, not just at Glamorgan, but within Wales as a whole."
