Kier secures £42m Walsall regeneration contract

Kier Group is celebrating the award of a new £42 million contract for the regeneration of five residential sites in Walsall from Walsall Housing Group (WHG).Covering Harrowby Road, Penine Way, Short Street, Somerfield Road and Wessex Close, the project will see Kier take on full development responsibilities for the delivery of 186 homes for open sale and a further 154 affordable units, comprising of a range of two-bedroom apartments and four-bed houses.Kier Partnership Homes' managing director Chris King said: "We are delighted to have been awarded these schemes; our winning strategy included innovative funding solutions, combined with our ability to deliver affordable housing."The project team has demonstrated true collaboration, and overcome many issues to ensure that the client can proceed with this much needed regeneration to the local area."Each of the new properties will be built to the exacting standards of the Code for Sustainable Homes level 3, with future residents set to benefit from considerably reduced running costs and energy bills as a result.All of the schemes are currently poised for work to begin on site, with a phased launch of the projects to take place between now and February 2014.Mark Tranter, WHG head of development, concluded the delivery of these new residential properties for homebuyers in Walsall will be an innovative partnership that draws on the skills of both parties to provide fantastic new homes for local residents across the area in the future.It is aimed at improving the standard of housing available to property hunters in Walsall and will go a long way towards tackling the ongoing housing crisis that is being witnessed not just in the West Midlands, but across the country as a whole."Kier was selected as WHG's development partner through the Homes and Communities Agency Delivery Partner Panel framework," he added.
